Experts in both the written word and its presentation

Workhorse’s Beate Schwirtlich holds bachelor degrees in fine art and journalism, laying the foundation for a career in book publishing. For five years, she worked as a typesetter, first at Wilfrid Laurier University Press and then Penguin Random House Canada.

Most recently she managed publication projects for the Higher Education Division of the University of Toronto Press. Over the course of ten years there, she shepherded textbook manuscripts through the editorial, production, and printing processes.

Beate founded Workhorse Editorial and Production Services in 2018, complementing her own skills with the strong network of freelance collaborators she has developed within Canada’s publishing industry. And yes, she loves horses as well as books.
